Legal Structure
Options in Life was established in 2011 by members of the community who had an interest in creating new opportunities for adults with learning disabilities. We guided Options in life through the process of forming a constituted body and registering their newly established group as a Charity. In 2015 we managed the process of changing their legal structure to a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organisation (SCIO) to protect the Charity’s Trustees against increasing liabilities as the organisation expanded.
Funding
In 2012 we secured grant funding which would enable Options in Life to launch their very first project for adults with learning disabilities in Fife. The project would be a social inclusion and skills development service. Due to the project’s success we have since been successful in securing further funding each year to support its continued growth and development. As a direct result the Charity has expanded the program from one day per week to five days, introduced evening activities, purchased a new Mini-Bus and a range of specially built disability tricycles. Financial Planning
Grant funding can be an excellent income resource for Charities but due to the often inconsistent inflow of funds it can rarely be relied on as long-term, stable source of income. It is therefore important that we work with our clients to help them establish multiple channels for generating income. We helped Options in Life develop services that would attract commissioning funds and now, as a result, approximately one third of their operation is funded through local government as service charges.
